US Elections: Managing Volatility With Discipline

US Elections: Managing Volatility With Discipline
· 4 min read

Sleepless night and huge volatility on the menu for these elections. As a matter of fact, the US election results really shook up the stock markets. I stayed glued to my screens to observe it all. In this article, I’ll break down the live reaction of the indices with you. More importantly, I’ll show you how I managed my positions with true discipline.

The political context: a real upheaval 📉

It’s November 4, 2026. Frankly, I haven’t even shaved this morning. I spent the entire night following the charts. Donald Trump took a massive, historic slap in the face during this election. He completely lost control of his Senate. To give you an idea, Kansas chose to elect an openly Democratic senator. That’s something we haven’t seen in over 96 years. The governor of Texas also fell to a Democrat. In short, waking up to this US electoral tidal wave was wild.

A palpable and dangerous tension on the indices ⚡

Faced with this massive shock, Asian markets quickly dropped. They lost between 2 and 3% pretty fast. Over here, this high uncertainty created a beautifully nervous volatility. Consequently, it’s the perfect situation to test your mental framework. I seriously started to feel a strong wave of excitement building up inside me. Which is actually the ultimate trap that leads to making huge trading mistakes.

My observations on this beautiful night of trading 🎯

Here is exactly how I read the famous price structure:

  1. The initial Nasdaq plunge: We had a very brutal drop in prices. The price then settled on the 27,614 points threshold. I was initially waiting for a pullback to 27,500 to validate my premise.
  2. A precision-caught bounce: I ultimately bought on a weekly support. It’s a key price level that remains heavily defended. The price quickly accelerated to generate a nice asymmetry. I kept my cool and firmly cashed out at 28,000 points. Honestly, it was a beautiful move and very fluid to watch.
  3. An unexpected general inertia: Despite the huge global surprise, the market quickly digested the information. Basically, professionals know very well that the economy will hold up. Trump temporarily keeps a powerful veto right until early 2029.
  4. Bitcoin truly sidelined: Crypto is curiously stagnating due to the recent Binance hack. Unfortunately, billions have just mysteriously vanished on the web. As a result, people are panicking heavily and stupidly selling their cryptos.

A good analogy to fully grasp the situation 🏛️

To truly realize this shift in direction in Texas, let’s draw a very simple parallel. Just imagine the highly bourgeois, affluent city of Neuilly changing radically. It’s somewhat as if Neuilly suddenly elected a far-left mayor from France Insoumise. It’s clearly a massive earthquake and a violent culture shock.

A useful clarification on the actual economic impact ⚖️

But be careful, extreme financial chaos is not on the agenda at all. The American institutional system has a rather remarkable legal inertia in the face of crises. These major political ripples will never block the current great economic machine. The worst risks ahead will instead come from possible targeted judicial investigations. On the other hand, right in front of the screens, fatigue remains your biggest hidden risk. By the way, I actually took a final small trade this morning out of pure annoyance. That’s the clear and distinct signal that it’s absolutely time to shut everything down.

Conclusion

When facing the worst unpredictable cycles, maintaining strong discipline becomes absolutely vital and fundamental. Wisely exploiting these beautiful asymmetries requires a consistently clear mind. My true goal for this long night is accomplished, so I’m logging off completely. I’ll just go sleep somewhere warm and absolutely recharge all my batteries.
